Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about booking, ACC, what to expect, and how physiotherapy at Grey Lynn Physio works.
-
No. In New Zealand you can book directly with a physiotherapist — no GP visit needed. Simply call us or book online and come straight in.
-
Yes. Use our online booking system to find a time that suits you. Look for the orange button at the top or bottom of the page
-
We aim to see new patients as quickly as possible — often the same day. If you're in acute pain or have a time-sensitive injury, let us know when you book, and we'll do our best to fit you in sooner.
-
First appointments are typically 45–60 minutes. This gives Damian time to take a full history, assess your movement and condition, and start hands-on treatment in the same session.
-
Any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRI or CT scans), comfortable clothing for the area being treated, and your ACC claim number if you have one. Otherwise, nothing — we'll sort it.
-
Loose, comfortable clothing that gives access to the area being treated. Shorts for knee, hip, or lower back issues. A singlet or loose t-shirt for shoulder or upper back concerns. We have a private treatment room.
Booking Appointments
-
Yes, if your injury was caused by an accident. ACC covers the majority of the treatment cost — you pay only a small patient co-payment per session. Grey Lynn Physio is an ACC registered provider.
-
Any injury caused by a specific event — a fall, a collision, a sudden awkward movement, a sports injury, a workplace incident. ACC does not cover conditions that develop gradually (like arthritis or wear and tear), but if you're unsure, call us and we'll tell you straight away.
-
You don't have to do anything beforehand. Simply book your appointment, let us know it may be ACC-related, and Damian will register the claim at your first visit. We handle all the paperwork.
-
ACC co-payment is $40 for 30mins and $55 for 45mins and $75 for 60mins
-
You can dispute an ACC decision through a review process. We can advise you on your options. You can also choose to continue on a private basis — we'll discuss this openly with you.
-
Sometimes. If you haven't yet claimed ACC for the injury and it was caused by an accident, you may still be eligible. Time limits apply, so it's worth checking sooner rather than later.
ACC Claims

Damian takes a thorough history of your injury and health background, then assesses your movement, strength, and specific condition. He explains what he finds and begins hands-on treatment in the same session. You'll leave knowing exactly what's wrong, why, and what's going to fix it.
-
This depends on your specific condition and how long you've had it. Damian will give you an honest estimate at your first appointment. Acute injuries often resolve in 3–6 sessions. Chronic or more complex conditions may require more. We don't string people along — the goal is always to get you better and independent as quickly as possible.
-
